Student Government Day Application

Each year, the Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC) sponsors several events that offer area high school students the opportunity to learn more about their community and the inner-workings of its’ municipal government. The next event will be the annual Student Government Day, held from 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM on Tuesday, February 27, 2018.

Student Government Day is an opportunity for students to shadow a member of Gilbert’s leadership team, examine the role of community organizations, and participate in a mock Town Council meeting. During the meeting, students will take on the role of the Mayor, Councilmembers, Town management, local business leaders, and concerned citizens.

This activity is open to any high school age student that physically resides within the Town of Gilbert, regardless of high school attended (to include those being home schooled). Application is due by 5:00 PM on Monday, January 29, 2018.

Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee

Are you a high school student living in Gilbert? Students in grades 9th-12th (ages 14-18) are invited to participate in the Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC). We need your voice to be heard in the community and YOU are part of what makes Gilbert great!

Throughout their orientation to the Town and issues facing our rapidly growing community, students are asked to volunteer in a variety of capacities as well as assist the Town Council in identifying and finding solutions to complex topics impacting all our residents.

Candidates for MYAC are selected on a yearly basis to coincide with the traditional school calendar. Students that will be entering the 10th and 11th grades will be given first preference. Due to space limitations, students that have previously participated in the program will not be eligible to re-apply.

MYAC Meetings

The meetings will focus on enhancing leadership skills, knowledge of local government as well as addressing the theme for each year. We ask that each student make a commitment to attend and participate. Date(s) and time(s) are listed below:
