Gilbert offers many wonderful ways to get involved and give back to the community. We use a town‑wide volunteer system to help you easily find opportunities that match your interests. To get started, simply create a Better Impact account—this will let you sign up for activities across multiple departments.

Volunteer Days at the Riparian Preserve occur on select Fridays and Saturdays from October through April each year. Keep an eye out for available shifts when the weather cools down.

9/11 National Day of Service: Friday, September 11, 2026 | Various Times and Locations

The 9/11 National Day of Service is a federally recognized day in the United States that honors the victims and heroes of September 11 by inspiring Americans to participate in community service. Established in 2009 under the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, it transforms a day of tragedy into one of unity, kindness, and civic responsibility.

Each year, millions take part in volunteer activities—from school-based projects and youth service grants to community programs at parks, memorials, and local organizations. Individuals can contribute by volunteering, donating, or organizing service projects, helping keep the spirit of remembrance and service alive.

Heat Relief - from March through Labor Day, Gilbert will collect bottled water and other donations to help provide relief for our community's most vulnerable populations during the hot summer months. Sun Safety items can be purchased on Amazon and will be delivered to Gilbert Town Hall for distribution.

Town of Gilbert Blood Drive- There is a critical need for blood and you can help! Sign up for a spot at the Southeast Regional Library on Apr. 13, May 14, June 17, July 13, Aug. 13, Sept. 15, Oct. 13, Nov. 19 and Dec. 21. Times are available between 1:30p-6:30p. Court Ordered Community Service

Court Ordered Community Service is offered to those 18 years and older. Physical labor is required and work is conducted outdoors and under the supervision of Park staff. Register online.

Eagle Scout Projects

Prospective Eagle Scouts - We encourage you to visit park sites in the community and see what needs improvement. The town does not have a “standing list” of projects. An internet search can also yield many project ideas. When you've decided on an Eagle Scout project, please share your ideas and coordinate with Kellie Elliot, Gilbert's Naturalist, at 480-503-6234 or kellie.elliott@gilbertaz.gov.

America 250

America 250’s national volunteer campaign invites people across the country to honor the nation’s 250th anniversary through meaningful service. Running January 1 through December 1, 2026, the campaign encourages individuals, families, community groups, nonprofits, and workplaces to give their time to projects that strengthen communities and reflect the nation’s spirit of civic engagement. The campaign highlights service as a unifying way to celebrate America’s past, support its present, and build a stronger future together.

For Our Town Gilbert has launched the campaign locally and is actively tracking volunteer hours to showcase the impact of community service throughout the year.

America 250 Flyer

Each year, the Town Council allocates all of Gilbert’s Neighbor 2 Neighbor funds, and a portion of Gilbert’s general funds, to nonprofit agencies that provide services to Gilbert residents.

From July 1, 2023 through June 2024, over 16,000 volunteers throughout the 32 nonprofit programs provided 218,000 hours of service to 32,000 residents.
