In 2019, with the help of community leaders, Mayor Jenn Daniels formed the One Gilbert coalition. One Gilbert is a community-wide effort to prevent and respond to the mental health crisis our youth is experiencing.
We know that our kids are suffering from debilitating anxiety and depression in record numbers and, as a result of hopelessness, some have taken their own life. Every member of our community matters and the Town of Gilbert has engaged in this difficult conversation to find solutions and develop a community tool box to assist individuals and families in need.
Our coalition is made up of mental health professionals, school leadership, students, family members, experts in social media and students needs, and non-profits that serve our youth and families. Our ultimate goal is to have an increase in the resiliency of our youth, gain access to tools and help when in need and to support one another as friends and neighbors.
As a community, we must come together to support our youth. This project is a collaborative effort and will ultimately provide important information about how all of us – students, parents, schools, businesses, neighbors, faith-based communities and non-profits – can help. Our community is eager to learn how we can best support youth and families in Gilbert.
