Crime Prevention Programs:
Child ID / Fingerprint Clinics
In partnership with the Arizona Crime Prevention Association, Inc. the Gilbert Police Department offers free Child ID/Fingerprinting for children over age 3 at various times throughout the year. Using the latest technology, parents receive a laminated ID card along with a CD which stores digital fingerprints, photographs and voice recognition files for the parents to maintain.
Please watch our social media channels and Town Calendar for event dates and information.
Crime Free Multi-Housing
In an effort to promote safety within Gilbert’s apartment communities, the Crime Free program is available and designed to help owners and property managers keep illegal activity out. Through three phases of implementation, apartment communities work closely with police to learn more about the use of the Drug-Free/Crime Free Lease Addendum and documenting and reporting in order to decrease crime.
Drug and Gang Prevention and Awareness Program
For parents, guardians, and adults: click on this quiz to help start the conversation with your child about drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, as well as word search and math puzzle activities. It is a fact that children whose parents talk to them about drugs are half as likely to ever use them, however only 20% of children report having had a conversation about drugs with their parents.
The Gilbert Police Department houses a drop box for prescription and over-the-counter drugs in the lobby of the main station at 75 East Civic Center Drive. This drop box was set up in order to keep these harmful chemicals out of our children's hands and keep our environment chemical free. It is available 24/7.
Acceptable items include: Prescription drugs, prescription patches, prescription samples, pet medication, and over the counter medications including vitamins.
Unacceptable items include, but are not limited to: Aerosol cans or inhalers, prescription ointments, bio-hazard or infectious waste, sharps, hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, thermometers, food items and supplements
Statewide, residents and visitors can view an interactive map at www.acpa.net listing permanent collection sites around the state. Clicking on the map will also reveal the sites’ hours of operation as well as guidance on what should and should not be dropped off at the collection sites.
