Potential candidates for the Gilbert Fire & Rescue Departments Cadet Program must meet the following criteria: 

• At least 18 years of age or older
• Possess a High School Diploma/GED
• Possess a valid Driver's License
• Pass Local and Federal background checks
• Possess a valid NREMT (National Registry Emergency Medical Technician) and/or an Arizona EMCT (Emergency Medical Certified Technician). Individuals currently enrolled in an EMT program may be accepted at Orientation with provided proof of enrollment.
• Possess proof of Completion of Physical Sports Physical

Gilbert Fire & Rescue Cadets have the unique opportunity to gain knowledge and build relationships with sworn firefighters. 

 Mentorship opportunities include:

• Skills courses
• Oral Interview Prep
• Test Prep
• Ride-alongs with engine companies, ladder companies, and ambulance personnel
• Several skill-based classes
• Assigned sworn mentorship

Cadets will participate in a variety of firefighter skill trainings.

Trainings include:

• Working in Turn Outs
• Using SCBA's
• Hose Management
• Search & Rescue 
• Vehicle Extrication
