Why are they working in my front yard?

Arizona Revised Statute (ARS) 11-831 requires subdivisions to dedicate utility easements to serve each lot.  These Public Utility Easements (PUE) are located adjacent to the Town Right of Way and are typically 8 feet in width.  The size and location of the PUE dedicated on your property can be accessed through the Maricopa County Assessor's office website.

Why is there paint on the ground in my yard?

Paint placed on the ground is required under Arizona state law and is part of the installation process.  The law is A.R.S. 40-360.21-31, and requires anyone who is excavating on public or private property for any reason to determine, in advance, “whether underground facilities will be encountered, and if so where they are located from each and every underground facilities operator and taking measures for control of the facilities in a careful and prudent manner.”  These marks are to identify other utilities in the right of way and serve the purpose minimizing any impact of service disruptions during the installation process. The paint is a non-toxic water-based paint which will fade over time placed by gas, electric, sewer, water, and other utility providers.  The utility marking program is administered by Arizona 811.

Why is there a hole cut in the ground on or near my property?

If you encounter a hole on or near your property, this is normal. This is part of the installation process. These holes provide contractors access to see other existing underground utilities so they can avoid damaging them. These holes will be covered at the end of each day and repaired in the restoration phase.

Will my property be repaired?

The fiber company contractors will take care to peel back landscape rock and grass from the installation areas with the intent of having the least impact and disruption possible. If boxes have been placed in the right of way or public utility easement where grass and rock was previously, they will restore landscaping and remaining areas surrounding the boxes to their original condition.  The contractor is responsible for any damage caused by their activities during the installation of their facilities.  The contractors are licensed and insured to conduct work within the public right of way.  The contractors regularly video the neighborhoods prior to construction for use to verify existing conditions.
