Governor Ducey Takes Further Action to Reverse COVID-19 Spread in Arizona 

On June 29, as part of continued efforts to reverse the trend of COVID-19 spread in Arizona, Governor Doug Ducey signed an Executive Order to prohibit large gatherings, cease the issuance of new special event licenses and pause the operations of bars, gyms, movie theaters, waterparks and tubing rentals. The pause of these business operations takes effect at 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 29 and is in effect for one month.

Pausing certain business operations

Effective at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2020, the following establishments shall pause operations until July 27, 2020:

  • Bars with a series 6 or 7 liquor license from the Department of Liquor Licenses and Control (these entities may provide take-out and curbside service);

  • Indoor gyms and fitness clubs or centers;

  • Indoor movie theaters;

  • Water parks;

  • And tubing operators.

Unless extended, the pause remains in effect until July 27, 2020, after which businesses seeking to resume operations must demonstrate compliance with public health guidance as determined by the Arizona Department of Health Services.

Maricopa County Board Allocates $399 Million for COVID-19 Response and Recovery

On June 8, Maricopa County announced that they will be distributing nearly $400 million into the local economy to help combat COVID-19. With an unanimous vote by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, the CARES Act dollars will be distributed as follows: 

Health emergency response: $93 million
Individuals and families: $37.5 million
Small businesses: $23 million
County services: $77.5 million
Future needs: $175 million

Small Businesses
$23 million was approved by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, which will be used toward a grant program that would help small businesses and non-profit organizations who were financially impacted by COVID-19. Find more details from Maricopa County.

Maricopa County Small Business/Nonprofit Relief Grants

Maricopa County is offering grants up to $10,000*  to small businesses and nonprofits experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Relief grants are intended to help for-profit small businesses and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations with expense reimbursement. For-profit businesses and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations located in Maricopa County, but not within the cities of Mesa or Phoenix**, are eligible. 

This grant program will begin accepting applications on Thursday, July 9, 2020. To apply, create a new account within the application platform, then fill out the grant application.

1. Create your account through the Arizona Community Foundation.
2. Click Create New Account. 
3. Please watch the tutorial video for step-by-step instructions on how to set up an account for your organization. 
4. Begin your application.

Maricopa County Small Business Relief Program

Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES)

The Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) will launch the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance System on May 12th.

If you haven’t already applied for Unemployment Insurance, please do so here, even if ineligible for regular unemployment.

Have specific questions? Contact the Unemployment Call Center at (877)600-2722. The Unemployment Insurance Call Center has extended its hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00AM to 6:00PM, and Sundays from 9:30AM to 5:00PM.
