Commander Kenny Buckland has 22 years of experience in law enforcement. He began his service as a police officer with the City of Prescott, Arizona in 1992. In 1995, Kenny joined the Gilbert Police Department, where he is still employed. On July 2, 2007, Kenny was promoted to the rank of Police Commander for the Gilbert Police Department.
Kenny has held numerous assignments including Uniformed Patrol, Bike Patrol, Field Training Officer, Recruit Training Officer, Advanced Officer Trainer, Lead Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Special Investigations Sergeant, Traffic Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Special Operations Lieutenant, SWAT Commander, East Valley DUI Task Force Co-Coordinator and Public Information Officer (PIO), San Tan Division Commander, Special Operations Commander and Patrol Commander. He has held several certifications including Data Driven Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety (DDACTS) Subject Matter Expert, general instructor, physical fitness instructor, defensive tactics instructor, Sudden Custody Death Syndrome (SCDS) instructor, Clandestine Laboratory Site Safety Officer and Responder, and All Hazards Incident Management.
Kenny’s education includes a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University, graduating with Distinction, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Northern Arizona University. In 2005, Kenny graduated from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command and in 2010, graduated from the FBI National Academy, 242nd Session.
Kenny received the Leadership Award from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for dedication of work with the East Valley DUI Task Force and commitment to traffic safety and additionally, designed and implemented Gilbert Police Department’s DDACTS model. From October 4th, 2006 through March 2014, Kenny served as the President of the Senate appointee to the DUI Abatement Oversight Council, a subcommittee to the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission. Kenny also holds a black belt in Judo and enjoys time volunteering as a coach teaching Judo, wrestling, and grappling.
Kenny is a native of Arizona and currently lives in Scottsdale, Arizona with his wife, Dawn-Marie, and family.
