Candler, Carrie

Commander Carrie Candler
  • Departments:Police Department
  • Title:Commander
  • Email:

Commander Carrie Candler began her career in law enforcement as a member of the United States Air Force as a Law Enforcement Specialist, serving at Williams Air Force Base in Mesa, Arizona and Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, DC. After her honorable military service, she joined the Fayetteville Police Department in North Carolina. Having a strong desire to return to Arizona, Commander Candler joined the Mesa Police Department in 1998. During her four years there she served in patrol and as a school resource officer. In 2002, Commander Candler joined the Scottsdale Police Department, where she served for 16 years in both Uniformed Services Bureau and Investigations Services Bureau.

As the Executive Officer in Scottsdale’s McKellips District, she had several accomplishments that included: partnered with the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith, and Family to implement Arizona Angel Initiative, established protocols to highlight the community engagement efforts of the District, created and developed a preservation plan for El Dorado Park and The New Foundation and spoke at a Police Executive Research Forum regarding best practices in sexual assault investigations.

In 2018, Commander Candler joined the Gilbert Police Department. In her first assignment as a patrol commander in the San Tan District, she was integral in the implementation of Compstat and redesigning patrol deployment from zones to beats, she facilitated the hosting of Gilbert’s first Youth Leadership Academy, and helped develop the Employee Roadmap that assists supervisors with mentoring their employees. In 2019, she transitioned to the Criminal Investigations Division Commander overseeing Persons and Property Crimes, SWAT, Intel, Crime Scene Specialists and Counseling.

Commander Candler immediately conducted a staffing study that culminated in the increase of personnel within the Division. She completed a restructuring of the Division to facilitate growth and allow the span of control to be manageable. Commander Candler continues to evaluate and implement efficiencies and best practices based on her experience.

Commander Candler has a Bachelor of Science from Park University in Human Resource Management, a Masters of Education in Counseling from Northern Arizona University and is a graduate of Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command.
