Gilbert Police Department Officer Involved Shooting – August 1, 2026

AUGUST 4, 2026 UPDATE:

The Gilbert Police Department is providing an update regarding the fatal stabbings that occurred on August 1st, 2026, near Lindsay and Elliot Roads. 

The investigation has identified the individuals involved and determined that all three victims were known to the now-deceased alleged suspect, 28-year-old Brett Eschliman, who lived at the property. Detectives have confirmed the deceased female victim as 32-year-old Delaney Bristow. 

The second deceased victim, identified as 30-year-old Caleb Worley, was a friend of Eschliman and also resided at the property with the surviving 29-year-old female victim. 

Based on the evidence gathered to date, detectives believe this was an isolated incident involving individuals known to one another. Detectives have found no indication of an ongoing threat to the community. 

The homicide investigation remains active as detectives continue to collect evidence, conduct interviews, and determine the circumstances leading up to the incident. Because the investigation is ongoing, no additional information will be released at this time. 

The Gilbert Police Department extends its sincere condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of those affected by this tragic incident. 

AUGUST 3, 2026 UPDATE:

The Gilbert Police Department continues to investigate the stabbing incident that occurred the night of Saturday, August 1, 2026, near Lindsay and Elliot Roads.

Detectives continue to conduct interviews, review evidence, and process the scene to establish a complete sequence of events from that night.

We have confirmed that the involved parties knew one another. There are no outstanding individuals or threats to the public. The names of the victims and suspect are being withheld pending completion of required notifications and are expected to be released on Tuesday.

 Our thoughts remain with the families affected by this tragedy.

The Officer-Involved Shooting connected to this incident is being investigated by the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team, with the Mesa Police Department serving as the primary investigating agency. A Critical Incident Briefing Video will be released at the conclusion of their investigation.

ORIGINAL RELEASE:

GILBERT, ARIZ. - On Saturday, August 1, 2026, just before 11:00 PM, Gilbert Police officers were dispatched to an unknown trouble call at a residence near Lindsay and Elliot Roads. The caller alleged that an individual living in a detached structure on the property had been stabbed and provided a brief description of the alleged male suspect. 

Upon arrival, officers moved toward the rear of the property, where multiple living structures and buildings were located. As they approached one of the structures, officers heard a female screaming inside. At the threshold of the structure, officers encountered a male who matched the description of the alleged suspect. The male fled further inside the residence, which also contained a female and a male with obvious injuries. Officers pursued the alleged male suspect into a bedroom, which is where the Officer-Involved Shooting occurred. 

The alleged male suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

Three stabbing victims (two females and one male) were located on the property. The male victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. A female victim was transported to the hospital and was later pronounced deceased. The second female victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is currently being treated at a local hospital. There are no outstanding suspects. Our thoughts are with the victim’s families during this difficult time. 

The Officer-Involved Shooting will be investigated by the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team (EVCIRT), with the Mesa Police Department serving as the primary investigating agency. 

All questions relating to the Officer-Involved Shooting investigation should be directed to the Mesa Police Department. Any questions related to the initial call should be directed to the Gilbert Police Department.

About EVCIRT:  

Effective July 1, 2024, eight police agencies across the east valley will use the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team (EVCIRT) to investigate any critical force incident that occurs within the jurisdiction of participating agencies. the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team includes members from Apache Junction, Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Paradise Valley, Queen Creek, Scottsdale, and Tempe Police Departments. Detectives from Chandler, Gilbert, Scottsdale, or Tempe will be the primary investigators with Apache Junction, Paradise Valley, and Queen Creek assisting in secondary roles.
