Post Date:10/22/2025 12:22 PM

Gilbert, AZ – With Halloween celebrations in full-swing, the Gilbert Police Department and Gilbert Fire & Rescue want to ensure everyone enjoys a fun and safe holiday. Whether you're trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins, or celebrating with friends, here are some important safety reminders.

Trick-Or-Treating Safety

  • Stick to well-lit neighborhoods and always walk on sidewalks.

  • Equip kids with flashlights, glow sticks, or reflective gear to stay visible.

  • Ensure costumes fit properly and don’t obstruct vision to prevent trips and falls.

  • Always inspect your child’s candy. Discard any items that are unwrapped, damaged, or suspicious.

Drivers: Stay Alert

  • Be extra cautious in residential areas during trick-or-treat hours.

  • Watch for children crossing the street or walking along the road.

  • Back out of driveways slowly and carefully.

  • Never drive under the influence.

Pumpkin Carving Safety

Gilbert Fire & Rescue recommends the following to avoid injuries while carving:

  • Set up your carving station on a clean, dry, and stable surface.

  • Use carving tools designed for pumpkins and keep them dry.

  • Always carve in a well-lit area using slow, controlled motions.

  • Keep your free hand away from the blade’s path.

  • Clean and dry your hands and tools before starting.

If an injury occurs:

  • Rinse the wound with warm water and apply pressure with a clean cloth.

  • Seek medical attention if bleeding doesn’t stop after 15 minutes, the cut is deep, or may require stitches.

  • For serious injuries, call 9-1-1 immediately.

Fall Safety Enforcement

Gilbert PD will continue its fall safety enforcement focusing on:

  • Underage drinking

  • Curfew violations

  • Unruly gatherings and parties

We all share responsibility in keeping our community safe and supporting our youth in making smart choices.

What is an Unruly Gathering?

An “unruly gathering” is any party or event, public or private, that disturbs the peace or enjoyment of others. Under Gilbert’s ordinance, responsible parties may include:

  • Property owners, landlords, tenants, or event sponsors

  • Parents or guardians of minors involved

  • Anyone present or aware of the gathering, especially if similar incidents occurred within the past 180 days

To report unsafe gatherings or disturbances, call Gilbert PD at 480-503-6500 or dial 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Teen Safety Tips

  • Stay Connected: Know where your teen is, who they’re with, and what they’re doing.

  • Open Dialogue: Encourage your teen to speak up about safety concerns.

  • Report, Don’t Repost: If your teen witnesses violence or threats, urge them to report it to police - not share it on social media.

Have a safe and happy Halloween!
