Gilbert, Ariz. - Gilbert PD has made an arrest in connection to an incident that resulted in a lockdown Tuesday at Highland High School.
On the morning of April 15, 2025, students reported that they saw a 17-year-old male student in possession of a gun on campus. After a search of the neighborhood, the 17-year-old was located off-campus and taken into custody. The gun was located a short time later in the neighborhood.
Through the investigation, officers also obtained information that connected the 17-year-old to a residential burglary alleged to have occurred on April 12, 2025, in Gilbert.
The teen was arrested and booked into the Durango Juvenile Center on the following charges:
- A.R.S. § 13-3111(A) Minor prohibited from carrying or possessing a firearm
- A.R.S. § 13-3102(A)(12) Firearm on School Ground
- A.R.S. § 13-3102(A)(7) Possession of Defaced Firearm
- A.R.S. § 13-2911(A)(1) Disruption of Educational Institute
- A.R.S. § 13-2904(A)(6) Disorderly Conduct
- A.R.S. § 13-1507(A) Burglary
The Gilbert Police Department would like to remind the public that charged or submitted offenses are merely allegations. All defendants are presumed innocent until pleading guilty or being found guilty.

Shortly after 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 15, the Gilbert Police Department was notified about a report of a student who was allegedly in possession of a handgun on the campus of Highland High School.
As a precautionary measure, Highland High School was placed on lockdown. All students were reported safe during the incident.
Officers quickly located the student alleged to have been in possession of the gun in a residential neighborhood adjacent to the school. Gilbert officers located the firearm a short time later during a thorough canvass of the neighborhood.
The school lockdown was lifted shortly after noon, allowing students to resume their regular schedules.
While the investigation is ongoing, we are grateful to the students who promptly reported the safety concerns.
Gilbert PD is continuing to work with Highland High School administrators, who will be providing an update to parents and staff.
