Gilbert Aims to Collect 72,600 Meals for Local Families
Gilbert, Ariz. - This June, Gilbert will be hosting the annual Gilbert Feeding Families community food drive with the goal of feeding all 72.6 square miles of Gilbert by collecting 72,600 meals.
“Gilbert is a generous community and I am confident that we can work together to help our neighbors in need,” said Mayor John Lewis.
All of the food donated will go directly to the Gilbert community. The United Food Bank works with eight different Gilbert organizations to distribute more than 126,000 pounds of food to support their programs.
“We are honored to have the support from Gilbert and their residents in this month-long food drive,” said Ginny Hildebrand, Interim CEO of United Food Bank. “June is the time when we are reminded of the long, harsh summer heat ahead of us which is also when our shelves run dry. Your generous contributions will help us keep food on our shelves so we can feed the hungry people of Gilbert and Arizona."
Donation drop-off sites will be located around the community, including all of the fire stations, recreation centers, and Town Hall. Gilbert is accepting online donations at www.gilbertaz.gov/feedingfamilies. Every dollar donated provides food for five meals.
