Throughout the month of January, Gilbert and neighboring cities are coming together in a show of regional unity. Each city will host a variety of events for all ages including a Volunteer Fair to find new service opportunities to attending a film screening or storybook walk. Here are a few ways the community can participate in Gilbert:

• Volunteer Fair – Saturday, Jan. 15
  Gilbert residents can find new ways to support their community by attending the Volunteer Fair at the Southeast Regional Library (775 N. Greenfield Rd Gilbert, AZ 85234) on Saturday, Jan. 15 from 10 am – noon. Over 15 nonprofits will be in attendance with information and opportunities for serving your community.

• Day of Service – Saturday, Jan. 15
  Gilbert residents can help their neighbors in need through a Day of Service on Saturday, Jan. 15. Volunteers will be asked to tackle small interior or exterior household maintenance items needed by elderly/homebound residents in the Gilbert area. Register as a volunteer.

• Storybook Walk – Jan. 14-21
  The Storybook Walk at the Gilbert Riparian Reserve is an interactive way for young readers and their caregivers to enjoy reading and nature at the same time. The featured book is Say Hello! by Rachel Isadora. The Storybook Walk will be available Jan. 14-21. 
  
  
• Film Screening – Thursday, Jan. 20 
  The Thursday film club at the Southeast Regional Library will be hosting a screening of the film "Just Mercy" on Jan. 20 from 6 – 8 p.m. Registration and masks required.  
  
  
• Frank Talk – Monday, Jan. 24
  Derek Keith, from Arizona State University, will facilitate a Frank talk on Monday, Jan. 24 at the Southeast Regional Library from 6-7 p.m. The title of the program is “Dog Whistle Language in the Media: How Can We Hear It?” Registration and masks required. 

• Take and Make Crafts – starting Jan. 14 
  Young children can learn about the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with three take and make crafts. They are a “Let Freedom Ring” Bell, Dove of Peace, and “I Have a Dream” Wreath. Best for ages 6 and up. Take and make activities will be available at the Southeast Regional Library, McQueen Park Activity Center and Gilbert Community Center starting Jan. 14 while supplies last.

Gilbert Police and Fire Departments will also participate in the annual East Valley Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade in Mesa on Monday, Jan. 17.
