Post Date:11/16/2020 3:06 PM

Gilbert, Ariz. – Gilbert has been named the most prosperous large city in the nation by Economic Innovation Group.

The study evaluated the economic performance of the country's 100 largest cities based on seven different metrics including poverty, education, housing vacancy, work, incomes, job growth and business openings.

While Gilbert snagged the top spot, there were two other Arizona cities in the Top 10, including Chandler at No. 2 and Scottsdale at No. 5.Downtown

It’s important to note that this study was based on data collected through 2018 and does not reflect the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re proud to once again be named the most prosperous city by Economic Innovation Group,” Mayor Scott Anderson said. “COVID-19 has brought economic challenges to our community, but we’re committed to ensuring that our residents and businesses have the resources they need to weather this storm.”

Gilbert received $29.2 million in CARES Act Funds to assist the community with COVID-19 relief. To date, $18 million has been allocated to the #GilbertTogether Business Recovery Program to assist businesses and residents and $2 million has been designated to support nonprofits assisting Gilbert residents most affected by COVID-19.
