Gilbert NewsHello, Gilbert! Here are the top news and events for the week of January 20th:

  • Gilbert honors the life and legend of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, January 20th. Join us for the East Valley Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Festival at 11 AM on Monday in downtown Mesa. Gilbert’s police and fire and rescue departments as well as members of Gilbert Town Council will be in attendance. Head to mesaaz.gov/mlkparade for more info.

  • Also, keep in mind that all municipal offices will be closed on Monday in honor of the MLK holiday. Trash and recycling services will continue as scheduled.

  • Gilbert and surrounding East Valley cities are coming together to support diversity and unity with a Regional Unity Walk on Saturday, January 25th at Tempe Beach Park. This free event begins with a festival at 4:30 PM and the unity walk starts at 6 PM. Entertainment, refreshments, and t-shirts will be available, and walkers are encouraged to wear purple and bring signs that promote unity. More info can be found here.

  • Big news! The 2020 Digital State of the Town is debuting this week. Tune in to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram at 7 PM on Thursday, January 23rd for the online premiere of the annual documentary-style video celebrating Gilbert's past while looking forward and planning for our future as we begin the community's Centennial year. You can also watch online at gilbertaz.gov/stateofthetown.

  • Other events taking place this week include a Council Subcommittee Meeting on Land Development Code at 7 AM on Tuesday, January 21st, a regular Town Council Meeting at 6 PM on January 21st and a Citizens Transportation Task Force meeting at 1 PM on Wednesday, January 22nd.
