Gilbert NewsHello, Gilbert! Here are the top news and events for the week of September 9th:

  • We want your feedback on Gilbert’s bulk trash and recycling programs! Make your voice heard by participating in a short online survey about these services. Your feedback will help drive key decision-making as the town navigates the changes impacting the recycling industry and explores new options for its bulk trash program. Head to gilbertaz.gov/news to participate.

  • Thinking about running for Gilbert Town Council? Attend an informational meeting at 4 PM on Monday, September 9th to learn to find out more about the upcoming vacancies which include two councilmember seats and a Mayor’s election. Visit our elections page for more information.

  • Gilbert joins the nation in remembrance this Wednesday, September 11th as we honor our nation’s fallen heroes. The Gilbert fire and police departments are hosting a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at 6 PM on Wednesday, September 11th at the 9/11 Memorial Plaza located at the Gilbert Civic Center. The ceremony will include a performance by the Desert Ridge High School band, remarks from each department’s command staff, and a Tribute in Light beginning at 7:30 PM.

  • The Gilbert Water Tower will be lit purple and teal through Tuesday, September 10th in recognition World Suicide Prevention Day. Suicide is the second-leading cause of death for Americans ages 10 – 34 and this day was created to bring awareness to the risk factors and warning signs.

  • The Water Tower will turn gold starting Friday, September 13th through Sunday, September 15th in recognition of Pediatric Cancer Month. The goal of the Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children is to help provide social, emotional and financial support for families with children fighting pediatric cancer. 

  • Other events taking place this week include at Council Subcommittee on Land Development Code at 7 AM on Monday, September 9th followed by an Open House for Phase 1B of Gilbert Regional Park that evening at 6 PM. There will also be a Parks and Recreation Board Meeting the following day,  at 6 PM on Tuesday, September 10th.
