Post Date:05/21/2019 8:00 AM
Flood Insurance Rates Have DroppedGilbert, Ariz. – Gilbert residents looking to purchase flood insurance can now save 15 percent on policy premiums as a result of improvements made to the community’s Floodplain Management Program.

In April, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) determined that Gilbert will move from a Class 8 to a Class 7 in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS), resulting in an additional five percent savings for residents.

The reclassification follows the most recent audit completed by the Insurance Services Office, which evaluates floodplain management programs every five years.

The designated Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA; also known as “100-year floodplain”) impacts a relatively small area in Gilbert, mainly along the eastern sides of railroad and canal embankments.
