Gilbert’s Office of Digital Government Named Communications Team of the Year
Gilbert, Ariz. – Gilbert’s Office of Digital Government (Gilbert Digital) was named the Communications Team of the Year by Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Phoenix at the annual Copper Anvil Awards ceremony. Additionally, the team received an Award of Merit in the category of Special Events or Observances for the 2018 Digital State of the Town.
The recognitions don’t stop there. Gilbert Digital also received an honorable mention for Agency Team of the Year from PR News, a national public relations group, at the Agency Elite Awards. The team also received two Rocky Mountain Emmy nominations for the 2018 Digital State of the Town, which has over 119,000 views on YouTube, and for a carpool karaoke with the Mayor. And, finally, Gilbert’s open data avatar, “Alex”, received the City Government-to-Citizen Experience Award from the Center for Digital Government.
“Gilbert’s Office of Digital Government is taking a different approach to how we handle outreach and communication," said Patrick Banger, Gilbert Town Manager. "We are committed to providing engaging and relatable content and videos and using social media to provide 24/7 customer service to our residents. It’s an honor to be recognized for these efforts.”
“We are focused on going where our residents are and making it easy for them to connect with their local government and access information,” said Dana Berchman, Chief Digital Officer. “If the world is living their lives online then government should be meeting them there to engage and provide services. You also have to be willing to take risks, push the envelope and embrace technological change and, for us, it’s paying off.”
