Gilbert Neighborhood Sends Soldier to Final Deployment
Gilbert, Ariz.- Residents of Agritopia move there for the neighborhood’s culture and camaraderie. When the close-knit community found out one of their own, Captain Jim Roe, was setting out for his final deployment overseas, they wanted to send him off in style.
Families gathered outside of their homes with signs, flags, patriotic clothing and high spirits at 5 o’clock in the morning. To Roe’s surprise, he exited the neighborhood to the waves, cheers, applause and full support of his community.
Agritopia is a planned development that includes restaurants, retail, urban farming and a community garden. It’s just one of the neighborhoods in Gilbert that make a place with nearly a quarter of a million people feel like a small town. It’s the kind of town with neighbors who would wake up at 5 a.m. to thank a humble soldier for his service.
