Gilbert to Host PHX East Valley Angel Investor Workshops
Gilbert, Ariz.- May 1, 2018, will mark the first of three workshops hosted in Gilbert geared toward educating potential angel investors on how to generate a return on investment while helping to grow businesses in the Phoenix region.
Together with the East Valley Partnership, the Gilbert Office of Economic Development is working with a number of PHX East Valley partners to catalyze economic growth by raising awareness of the importance of angel investing and enhancing access to early-stage funding for area tech startups. The first series of workshops were held in Chandler earlier this year.
“We appreciate efforts of the Gilbert Economic Development Team to host a second round of Angel Investing Workshops in the PHX East Valley,” said John Lewis, president and CEO of East Valley Partnership. “These efforts will help identify, educate, and activate future investors of startup companies in our area which will result in new jobs and economic energy for the entire region.”
“To establish the PHX East Valley as a small business hub, the key catalyst is bringing founders and investors together,” said Kyle Leavitt, CEO & Co-founder of LoyalStream, a Gilbert-based startup. “When that domino begins falling more frequently for local startups it will fuel more growth, breed more local investment, and result in more startups coming to the area. Without the aid of angel investment, startups like ours are not very likely to survive their first couple years.”
Three 2-hour workshop sessions will be hosted at the University Building in the Heritage District on the following dates from 5:30-7: 30pm:
- May 1st: Winners: #PHXEastValley Successful Startups; How to Evaluate a Startup with No Revenue
- May 16th: Is This Company Worth It?; Setting the Terms of a Deal
- June 6th: Trends in Investing, with a Nod to Venture Capital; Angel Investing – Doing It
In addition to working with regional partners to build the angel investor network, the Gilbert Office of Economic Development (OED) aims to bring the startup process full-circle by supporting startups and small businesses throughout every stage of their process. Gilbert OED is ramping up for their next series of free educational workshops delivered at SPARKSpot, a space uniquely designed for Gilbert-based entrepreneurs. Topics for future workshops will cover everything from taxes and legal issues to the art of negotiating a deal.
“I have a lot of friends here in Gilbert that are venturing out to start businesses of their own,” said Leavitt. “It is motivating to see the Town dedicate resources to support startups in a more deliberate way.”
“As the startup community in the PHX East Valley continues to grow at a rapid pace, Gilbert is working to foster entrepreneurship and innovation within our own community,” said Dan Henderson, Director of the Gilbert Office of Economic Development. “These startup and angel investor programs will create a healthy lifecycle for Gilbert-based businesses and will encourage their long term investment in our community.”
