From the Mayor's Desk: Making a Difference
Fall has finally arrived – can you feel it in the air? Our town events will have you ready for fall in no time! I was pleased to welcome the 2017-2018 Mayor’s Youth Advisory Class of high school students who are ready to make a difference. Throughout the next nine months they will learn about town operations, how we work with our numerous community partners and ways in which they can give back and make their community better.
Giving back was also the theme of the 2017 Faith Leaders Summit, in which we explored the great work of non-profits such as Lifting Hands International, Mission of Mercy and I’mpact One. I enjoyed the dialogue from all our faith leaders about areas in which they may be working to connect Gilbert families with needed resources. We appreciate the participation and contribution of so many!
We were also pleased to host a delegation visit from our sister city, Leshan, China. Dignitaries and staff gathered for a luncheon where we received an update on the exciting things happening in their city and discussed continued opportunities for partnership. In October, a group of Gilbert volunteers serving as delegates will be visiting Gilbert’s second sister city, Antrim-Newtownabbey, Ireland in an exchange of ideas.
Fall brings lots of wonderful events hosted throughout the Town of Gilbert. I would encourage you to continue to check the calendar for upcoming opportunities here.
