Gilbert, Ariz.- Gilbert Feeding Families is hosting a community food drive to benefit the United Food Bank during the month of September, Hunger Action Month. In light of recent events, a portion of donations will go toward the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
In early August, the United Food Bank of Arizona lost thousands of meals as the result of a freezer malfunction in their East Valley facility. With the community's help, this food drive aims to raise 172,000 meals, more than enough to replenish lost supplies and provide some assistance for those impacted by the storm in Houston.
There are many ways to help. Donation boxes have been distributed throughout the Town of Gilbert in municipal buildings, the Chamber of Commerce, and local businesses. Monetary donations can be made via the food drive website at gilbertaz.gov/feedingfamilies. Donations can also be brought to the Gilbert Farmers Market during the month of September, and the food drive will host a "Drop in the Drive to Crush Hunger" event at the Gilbert Civic Center on Wednesday, September 27th.
