Gilbert, Ariz.- Two more Gilbert recreation centers have joined the ranks of Water Wise Gilbert facilities. McQueen Park Activity Center, next to McQueen Park, and Gilbert Community Center in the Heritage District have both upgraded their indoor plumbing to be more water efficient.
Faucet aerators were swapped from 2.2 gallons per minute to 0.5 gallon per minute for all hand wash sinks (that little piece of technology can save big!). Urinals were converted from 1 gallon per flush to 0.5 gallon per flush, cutting water use in half in male restrooms.
Dual flush handles were installed on all toilets. Dual flush handles allow for liquid waste to be disposed of with a 1 gallon per flush option (flush up). The original option for solid waste still stands, 1.6 gallons per flush (flush down). Keep an eye out for the iconic green handles that indicates you have options.
The upgrades for both of these buildings are projected to save Gilbert over 100,000 gallons of water annually. That’s more than two Gilbert water towers worth of water saved every year.
With these final two recreation centers certified Water Wise Gilbert, you can rest assured that when you visit a Gilbert recreation facility, it is using water wisely. Freestone Recreation Center and the Southeast Regional Library earned their Water Wise Gilbert distinctions last year. See a water leak? Let us know at (480) 503-6400.
