Gilbert Focuses on Tourism at Mayor’s Ambassador Forum
Gilbert, Ariz.- Tourism is the largest industry sector in Arizona and Gilbert wants to capitalize on this untapped market. It’s just one of the reasons Gilbert’s latest Mayor’s Ambassador Forum brought industry leaders together to weigh in on the topic.
Panelists at the forum included representatives from the Arizona Office of Tourism, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, Minding Your Business, Inc., Hyatt Place and Inspire Courts of AZ. Through their discussion, attendees learned how tourism affects the community, why it’s so important and what Gilbert is doing to boost efforts.
“Tourism is often the very first stage in economic development,” said Arizona Office of Tourism Deputy Director Stephanie Dowling. “When people come into the valley to experience it they’re often left with ‘I want to live there’ or ‘I want to move my business there’ so it’s a really important part of the process. To see a mayor really embrace that is such a great way to present a very clear vision.”
Gilbert earned $180,000 in tax collection from Food, Entertainment and Retail Sales (FERS) but the community has the potential to earn $725,000 annually. With plenty of attractions and amenities from foodie destinations to natural preserves, there’s a lot to discover in Gilbert. For more information about Gilbert tourism, click here.
