The Gilbert Town Council consists of a mayor and six council members who serve four year terms. Unless otherwise noted, the council meets every other Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Gilbert Municipal Center, 50 E. Civic Center Drive. Council agendas are posted on this website at least 24 hours prior to the meeting time. Council meeting minutes from 1998 to the present are also available via this Town's website.
Mayor John Lewis
Mayor John Lewis was elected as Mayor in May 2009. Prior community involvement includes serving as Co-Chairman of the Town's Diversity Task Force, Organizer of Community Interfaith activities, and Founder of Gilbert's "Constitution Week."
He has 30 years of private sector business experience including 20 years with Apollo Group (parent company to the University of Phoenix) and 9 years with Ernst & Young (International Accounting Firm). Assignments have included information technology management, leadership development, and management consulting. He also served in a staff position with U.S. Senator Jake Garn, in Washington DC. He is currently serving in an Adjunct Faculty role in the Business Department at Mesa Community College.
Mayor Lewis earned an MBA from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Science (Finance) from Brigham Young University. He has been married to LaCinda for 32 years and together they have nine children and six grandchildren. The Lewis Family has lived in Gilbert for 27 years.
In addition to his mayoral duties, Mayor Lewis also serves on the following regional boards and committees: Arizona League of Cities Executive Committee, Maricopa Association of Government (MAG) Regional Council, MAG Economic Development Committee, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Board, Greater Phoenix Economic Council Board, East Valley Partnership Board, Arizona BrainFood Executive Board, and Care for Life Advisory Board.

Vice Mayor Ben Cooper
Ben Cooper was appointed to the Gilbert Town Council in May 2010 and elected in 2011. Prior to joining the Council, Ben served on a variety of Town boards and committees, including six years on the Gilbert Economic Development Advisory Board. Ben also chaired the sub-committee charged with updating the Gilbert General Plan 2011 chapters on Economic Development, Environmental Planning, and Energy.
Ben has small business experience with real estate investments, land development and entitlements. Before choosing to work for himself, Ben spent six years with the Greater Phoenix Economic Council attracting large businesses to communities within the Phoenix area, including Gilbert. He holds an MBA in International Management from the prestigious Thunderbird School of Global Management.
Ben first moved to Gilbert as a junior high school student in 1983 and, as such, he is a proud product of Gilbert Public Schools. He and his wife, Milena, love living in Gilbert and feel it is wonderful place to raise their three young daughters.
Councilmember Eddie Cook
Eddie Cook was elected to the Council in 2011. He has served on the Gilbert Water Resource MPC, President and board member of two local Catholic Schools and volunteers for a number of charitable and non-profit organizations. He has over 25 years in the private sector focused in the high technology industry. Companies include NetApp, Silicon Graphics, Parametric Technologies, Motorola and Orbital Sciences.
Eddie has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Arizona State University. Elected as a precinct and state committeeman with the Republican Party. Serves on the GOP LD22 executive board.
Eddie is active at St. Timothy Catholic Church with Music, Marriage and Men's ministries. Eddie was born in Okinawa and where many of his Japanese relatives remain. Eddie grew up in an US Air Force family traveling around the world. Eddie is married to Jenny, his high school sweetheart. They have 5 children, Joel, Xavier, Maria, Anthony and Sophia. The Cook family has lived in Gilbert since 1986. Eddie is a certified glider pilot and scuba diver and loves to compete in sports.
Councilmember Jenn Daniels
Jenn Daniels was elected to a four-year term in May 2009. Jenn has served her community for five years on the board of a non-profit, worked on several state ballot initiatives, volunteers with charitable organizations and takes an active interest in our Gilbert community.
Jenn has a B.A. in Humanities and worked for six years in finance - three in the private sector and three more as the owner of her own small business.
Jenn is active in her church, enjoys reading and outdoor activities, is a precinct committeewoman and loves spending time with her family. Jenn is married to Eric Daniels and they have three young sons.
Councilmember Victor Petersen
Victor Petersen was elected to the Council in 2011. Victor has been an active precinct committeeman and has been deeply involved in town issues in recent years. Victor is a general manager in a locally run construction company with duties over budgets, system efficiencies, contracts, and technology.
Victor graduated from Gilbert High School and later from ASU with a bachelors of science in psychology. Victor is an eager student of the constitution and the principles behind it; he has taught classes on these subjects in the community. Victor is married to Joyce, and they have three boys ranging in age from 6 to10 and a one-year-old daughter.
Councilmember Jordan Ray
Jordan Ray was elected to the Town Council in 2011. Jordan is a fifth generation Arizonan who was born and raised in the East Valley. Jordan has been involved in the community as a Boy Scouts of America leader and also as a youth sports coach.
Currently, Jordan is the Vice President of inData Corporation, a litigation technology company which is based in Gilbert. Jordan has a B.S. degree in Information Technology and received his Juris Doctorate in 2008.
Jordan loves playing sports and spending time outdoors. Jordan has been married to his high school sweetheart Mandy for 11 years. They are the proud parents of four young children.
Councilmember Jared Taylor
Jared Taylor was elected to the Town Council in 2012. Prior to his election, Jared served on various citizen budget committees, as a precinct committeeman and vice chairman in his legislative district, and on the board for Constitution Week USA.
Jared worked for 10 years in various corporate human resources roles with Motorola and Honeywell. He is currently the business manager at Heritage Academy, one of the first public charter schools in Arizona. He earned a B.S. in Management and MBA at Arizona State University. Jared and his wife Diane have three beautiful daughters.
