Gilbert the 5th Safest Community in Nation

Our Town's quality as a safe community was honored once again, as Gilbert was named the Fifth safest community America by Business Insider, based on an analysis of FBI statistics. The recognition is a jump from Gilbert's November rating as 17th safest community in the nation by CQ Press. Gilbert ranked above all other Arizona communities for its safe atmosphere.

"For our local public safety heroes and our entire community, we are honored to receive this national recognition as the 5th Safest community in the country," said Mayor John Lewis, "Public safety has always been and will continue to be a Gilbert priority."

On Thursday, the Town Council will acknowledge the recognition during the 7 p.m. Town Council meeting at 50 E. Civic Center Drive, and played live at www.gilbertaz.gov and on Cox Channel 11. The Council will celebrate the Town's commitment to public safety as a top priority.

Business Insider is a news Website that investigates business, finance and technology news. It is an important honor at a time when Gilbert is becoming known for its biomedical industry. The analysis looked at crime rates reported in the preliminary FBI Annual Uniform Crime Report recently released with 2010 statistics.

Gilbert has long been honored for its safe, family-friendly atmosphere. In November 2010, Gilbert was named 17th safest community in the nation and safest in Arizona by CQ Press, in its annual report on safe communities, also using an analysis of FBI statistics.

Residents in the 2010 Heads of Households Survey regularly list safety as one of the reasons they continue to rate the Town high, with a current 98 percent approval rating. Ninety-five percent of residents in the survey said they felt safe in Gilbert from crime and while driving or in their homes.
