DRUG DISPOSAL SATURDAY
Help us keep prescription drugs out of the hands of our youth at a drug disposal event Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Town's Public Safety Complex. Teenagers abuse prescription drugs more than they do any illicit drug, except marijuana. One in five teens in Arizona admits to abusing prescription drugs, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. Prescription drug related deaths jumped 41 percent from 2006 to 2007. Learn how you can take your unused prescriptions out of circulation.
FALSE SECURITYALARMS:
Security alarms were originally designed to protect lives and property. Properly installed, used, and maintained, security alarms are a real asset. When misused, they end up costing us all millions of dollars and thousands of man hours nationwide. The police departments, as well as security companies, must react to false alarms, which distracts them from other important duties in keeping our community safe. You as the system user also experience the inconvenience of false alarms and the assessment of fines. False alarms must concern each of us. Learn about free workshops for residents that help us all to avoid the expense of a false alarm.
CITIZEN POLICE ACADEMY
Enrollment is underway for the next Citizen's Police Academy, which begins October 13. FIRE PREVENTION WEEK OCT. 3
Smoke alarms can, and do, save lives: But you need to be sure they are working. Oct. 3 is National Fire Prevention Week and a great time to take stock of your own home safety plan. This year's campaign emphasizes the importance of smoke alarms in saving lives, and why it is so very important that we all regularly check our alarms and ensure they are operating. Smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a fire in half. In 2003-06, about two-thirds of fire deaths were in situations where there was no working smoke alarm to warn the residents to exit the home.
Make sure your family has working smoke alarms, and an escape plan, and take the time to practice it this month.
