Summer weather is here and many of us are already relaxing poolside. It is an important time of year to be proactive and help keep all of our children safe around water. A Town forum moderated by the Arizona Republic on Tuesday, May 11 at 6 p.m., will feature a firefighter who has answered repeated child drowning calls, a hospital advocate where children are treated, and a water safety expert who can provide the most up to date tips. Residents can attend the forum at Town Hall, 50 E. Civic Center Drive, and bring questions for the experts. The taped forum will be played on a regular basis following the event.

Water Safety Tips

Never leave a child out of supervisory eye contact in or near a pool, not even for a
second. If you must leave the pool area, take your child with you.

Do not place objects like chairs or tables
near the pool or spa fence that could allow
a youngster to climb over or fall in.

Keep toys, particularly tricycles, away from the pool. A child playing with these
could accidentally fall into the water.

Never leave children unattended around places where water can pose a threat (bathtubs, toilets, ponds, canals, 5-gallon buckets, open water)

Secure pools with fencing and self-latching gates.

Learn Continuous Chest Compressions.
CPR instruction is available from a variety
of sources. Check your local yellow pages
under first aid for available classes.
