In an ongoing effort to conserve water usage in our Town, Gilbert is working with our PKID neighborhoods to dramatically decrease water use in their common areas. Gilbert has cut the use of water on common areas inside PKIDs to 55,879,000 gallons used in 2010, from 76,552,000 gallons used in 2009. That is a cost decrease of $34,000 – and a 27 percent decrease in water use.

Keep recycling green waste with compost bins
Gilbert is helping Town residents to divert reusable green waste – such as grass, leaves and even lettuce – by composting it at home and using as soil.
The Town provides free compost bins, made from recycled materials, to residents interested in helping reuse and recycle green waste.
The goal: Keep reusable green waste out of landfills, and use it to nourish our landscaping. A reduction in having to deliver the green waste to a landfill also saves taxpayer dollars.

Water
Wise Plants
Agaves are impressive leaf succulents with a wide range of color, texture and size to their rosettes. There are approximately 200 species found throughout the southwest, Mexico and Central America. The bold rosettes are dramatic accents for the landscape that contrast well with the fine texture of desert-adapted trees and shrubs. Agaves are some of the most useful desert plants, tolerant of heat, cold, drought, and poor soil.
