MONSOON SAFETY FACTS:

Summer means mosquito season, and is a time we all need to be vigilant about protecting ourselves from the safety hazards the insects can carry, including West Nile Virus. Be sure to prevent mosquito breeding by keeping pools clean and following these tips that you can share with your neighbors and your entire community.


 NEW SIGN CODES:


 Gilbert businesses will have new opportunities to market their business following the approval of progressive new sign codes
. The new code takes effect July 23, and allows new temporary signs, flying banners and additional A frame signs. Learn about the expanded code and how to start a business in Gilbert.

CENSUS COMPLETION

The 2010 U.S. Census count is almost complete, but you can still be counted if you think you have been missed. Contact the Town at publicinformation@gilbertaz.gov for help through the process. Thank you for your help in this historic and important count. A full count of Town residents means better planning and full funding for schools, hospitals, police and fire agencies.

Gilbert residents can now review the draft of the General Plan on the Town's Web site and at Town facilities. The document guides important decisions that impact our every day lives, including the location and size of homes, businesses, streets, parks and even environmental impacts and planning. You still have time to submit your comments online, or attend upcoming open houses. CORRECTION: the extensive document of drafts will not be mailed.Learn more.


FUNDRAISERS and EVENTS:

Donate nonperishable food to United Food Bank at Town facilities now through Monday, June 28. Learn what they need.

Catch an advanced screening of Twilight Eclipse 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 29. Proceeds support East Valley Firefighter's Charities. Learn more here and get a ticket.

Come support your favorite heroes in the annual Police vs Firefighters Rib Eating Contest, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, at Texas Roadhouse, 5086 S. Power Road (Power and Ray), Gilbert. Ten percent of proceeds from the entire day goes to the winner's charity. Learn more.

A Back to School Supply Drive begins July 1 through July 26, at Town facilities and fire stations. Learn what our students need.
