Commander Pete Smith Biography
Commander Pete Smith has been with the Gilbert Police Department since 1995. He has served in a number of different areas of the police department, including Patrol, Traffic, SWAT, Criminal investigations, Special Investigations, and the Criminal Apprehension Team. His supervisory roles include DUI squad sergeant, lieutenant in both Traffic and Special Operations, and SWAT commander. He has served as the commander of the Patrol Division since 2012.
Pete attended Valley Christian High School in Tempe and obtained his bachelor of arts degree from Ottawa University (Tempe) in Public Administration. He is currently a participant in a master of arts degree program through the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Pete has served the community through active service in his church and as a volunteer basketball coach for many years. He is a family man, an outdoor enthusiast, and an adrenaline junkie.
