Lieutenant John Lyle Biography

As a long standing Arizona resident, Lieutenant John Lyle attended high school in Tempe and later graduated Cum Laude from Northern Arizona University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Studies. John completed the Arizona Regional Community Policing Institute Leadership in Police Organizations course in April 2008. In 2009 John graduated from the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
John joined the Gilbert Police Department in 1996 where he has since served as a patrol officer, field training officer, gang detective assigned to the GITEM State Gang Task Force, recruit training officer at the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy and member of the Tactical Operations Unit.
In 2004, John was promoted to the rank of sergeant where he completed assignments in Patrol, Administration/Public Information, Basic Training Sergeant at the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy (ALEA) and Precision Rifle Team Leader as part of his SWAT duties. During his assignment at ALEA, John was responsible for supervising the basic police training of 140 police recruits.
Since being promoted to lieutenant in 2007, John has managed operations in the patrol division and is now assigned to the Office of Professional Standards.
