Solve-It Program

graphic, solve-it logoIs a mediation service which provides a way for people to resolve conflicts peacefully and to reach mutually satisfactory solutions in a cost effective manner. By providing services to assist residents in the resolution of civil disputes at the community level, we help people resolve a problem or conflict in a safe, non-threatening environment.

Examples of our services - Mediation services are provided for the following kinds of disputes: noise, nuisance, property maintenance, pets, interpersonal disputes, harassment and landlord-tenant relations. We also recruit and provide mediation training, through our Neighborhood Leadership College, to community volunteers who deliver mediation services.

How does it work? Usually the disputes involve neighbors or other situations where people may have frequent contact. In a mediation session, the two parties individually explain the problem, what they want, and what they are willing to do to resolve the problem. The parties Solve It! with the mediators facilitating the process. A mediator maintains confidentiality and does not judge or create solutions.

Why use it? Using mediation services is a good option for many reasons. Services are available at various times and locations. The cost for mediation services is minimal. Most important, the individuals have the opportunity to create their own agreement instead of having a decision made for them by a court or arbitrator. It can avoid expensive court litigation too.

About our mediators. All our mediators are volunteers who have completed a minimum of 40 hours of training in Mediation and Conflict Resolution offered by the Southeast Valley Neighborhood Leadership College. Mediators use classic mediation techniques to strengthen existing sources of unity, such as family, community ties or business relationships. The goal is to create a lasting agreement on principle, rather than narrowly defined self-interest. This concept is vital to successful resolutions.
