Sex Offender Information
- Sex offenders come from all walks of life and all socio-economic groups. They can be male or female, rich or poor, employed or unemployed, religious or non-religious, highly educated or uneducated and from any race.
- The suspect is known to the victim in over 80% of sex crimes. This means the suspect is a parent, relative, care-taker, neighbor, or significant other.
- A large percentage of adults convicted of felony sex crimes have no prior criminal history.
- Sex offender registration is a life-time requirement unless the offense was adjudicated in juvenile court. Then it is a requirement until age 25. Registration for offenders convicted of unlawful imprisonment or kidnapping of a minor with no other sex-related crimes convictions has a 10-year registration requirement.
- We cannot dictate where an offender may or may not live outside of any court sentence or court conditions of release.
- Citizens should be careful not to gain a false sense of security from the sex offender registration and notification laws.
- Not all sex offenders are subject to the notification law
- Not all sex offenders obey the law and register their current address
- Not all sex offenders have been discovered
- 85 Sex offenders are registered in the Town of Gilbert; 82 are males and 3 are female.
- 44 of the registered sex offenders in Gilbert are pre-'96 and are not subject to community notification.
- 20 are level 1
- 14 are level 2
- 2 are level 3
Not all registered sex offender addresses have been verified by our department. DPS is also verifying addresses, however have not completed Maricopa County.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety maintains a sex offender search engine, which is updated once a week. Because of this excellent and up-to-date resource, the Gilbert Police Department does not maintain a separate sex offender search engine.
