Neighbors working together in cooperation with law enforcement can make one of the best crime-fighting teams around. Block Watch or Neighborhood Watch, which it is sometimes called, is a crime prevention program that enlists the active participation of citizens in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime in neighborhoods. This program is always ongoing and continued enrollment is always accepted. It is a free program and involves getting acquainted with your neighbors, looking out for one another, and learning more about crime prevention.
To become a Block Watch neighborhood, you must first contact the Gilbert Police Crime Prevention Unit at (480)503-6527 and schedule a Crime Prevention Social. Next you must determine the geographic area of your Block Watch Program, canvas the area, and enlist persons interested in attending the Crime Prevention Social. We do not recommend more than forty homes within a program area. In order to obtain Block Watch status and signage for your community, at least 50% of the neighborhood must attend the Crime Prevention Social wherein a representative of the police department will give a 45 minute presentation on such things as; home security, 911, suspect descriptions and much more. To maintain your neighborhoods status and signage, your neighborhood must host at least one meeting per year. The Block Watch Program in your area can be beneficial in making your neighborhood a safer place to live, work, and raise a family.
