Museum display in tribute to Eric Shuhandler to be dedicated on Memorial Day It is not every day that we get to meet a hero, especially one who has touched so many lives in our community as Lieutenant Eric Lewis Shuhandler. Eric’s loved ones are helping us do just that, at a new display in the Gilbert Historical Museum. The tribute allows us to get to know the man who gave the ultimate sacrifice, for us. Photos on the wall tell the story of a full life: Eric with his mother in one of his beloved Corvettes; Eric on one of his many travels with his beaming daughters he was so proud of. A pair of red and black skiis hangs in the museum; not far beneath is an image of the playful side of Eric, crashing face first in the snow in the very same skiis. Eric’s uniform hangs in one display, his Diamondbacks jersey in another. The tangible evidence of his life, lived to the fullest, makes it clear what he and his family and friends sacrificed for our safety. The outpouring of community support has been just as tangible. Residents who continue to express their support and appreciation for Eric, and to his family, can visit the museum during regular hours and learn more about his life. His legacy will remain at the museum as a piece of history, where he can continue to teach our children about bravery and honor.
