Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence RibbonOctober is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Town of Gilbert is hosting several events to bring about awareness of this serious issue.

Proclamation of Commencement by Mayor John Lewis

A representative from Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence will be in attendance to accept the proclamation. Town of Gilbert's Victims Advocate, Dina Aguilera will be recognized for her work with local victims of domestic violence.

Wear Purple Week
October 29th - November 2nd, 2012

The color purple represents the courage, survival, honor and dedication to ending domestic violence. The Town of Gilbert invites the community to join us and wear purple throughout the week.

Silent Witness Display
October 22nd - 26th, 2012
Town Hall Lawn, 50 E. Civic Center Dr., Gilbert

The Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence will be showing their Silent Witness Display throughout the week on the Town Hall Lawn. The display is a testimony to the innocent people killed each year by domestic violence in Arizona. It consists of a collection of life-size figures of people representing a specific person who lost their life due to domestic violence. On each figure, a note provides information about that person's case.

My Sister's Place Supply Drive

My Sister's Place Wish List

Throughout the month, the Town of Gilbert will be collecting various items such as toiletries, blankets, kitchen supplies, new kids and women's clothing, and baby food for My Sister's Place, one of only two domestic violence shelters in the East Valley.

Purple donation boxes will be set up at the following locations around Town:
