Gilbert's Global Village Festival is a multi-cultural celebration for all ages. The festival brings neighbors together in a friendly, educational way to learn more about each other. The world is at your doorstep with ethnic food and art and international gifts for sale.

Community members, schools, non-profits and service organizations are invited to join in the eighth annual Gilbert Global Village Festival. This family event highlights some of the traditional and contemporary forms of dance, music, children's activities, arts & crafts and ethnic foods from countries far away on the green open spaces of the Gilbert Civic Center North Campus. Our mission is to create opportunities for individuals and communities to celebrate, share and sustain the arts and the rich cultural traditions of countries from around the world.

Produced by the Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with the Human Relations, Culture and Arts Promotion Commission, Gilbert Sister Cities Board and Gilbert Public Schools, the Global Village Festival promotes social diversity and makes learning about each other fun. Global guests of all ages get a taste of traditional music, dance, crafts and ethnic foods that are characteristic of the cultures which make up America today. There's no need to pack your bags or wait in line at the airport - The World is at YOUR Doorstep The tree-shaded grounds of the Gilbert Municipal Center provide an ideal setting for presentations by a variety of international groups and performers.

Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for this fun family event. Will you spend the day with us? To Become a Volunteer complete the on-line application. We need help setting up, tearing down, and in all of the following areas:

  • · Religions of the World- Learn about religions from around the world.
  • · World Stages - Stages featuring an international group of entertainers.
  • · Creation Nation - Hands-on activities for children & adults.
  • · Explore-A-Nation - Exhibits & hands-on activities.
  • · International Bazaar - Exotic merchandise for sale from around the world.
  • · Avenue of the Arts - Original artwork for sale.
  • · Taste of the World - Sample the delights of a variety of different foods.

Volunteers receive a t-shirt and access to the hospitality tent.

Exhibitor, Vendor, Performer Applications

Exhibitors, vendors and performers who would like to share their culture through art, crafts, merchandise goods, food or artistic performances are welcome to apply to become a part of the event.  Applications will be reviewed by the Global Village Festival Steering Committee for approval.  Applicants will be notified of the status of their applications within 2 weeks.

  • Visit this open market place where ethnic crafts, clothing, jewelry, and other imported merchandise will be on sale.

  • Treat your taste buds to ethnic food and beverages available for purchase.

CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES

Creation Nation Hands-on activities will be offered for youth and adults to experience. Learn about music, arts, science, history, and dance of other cultures.

INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION

Explore-a-Nation What is a didgeridoo? When meeting a person from China, is it best to bow or should I offer my hand? Learn about the customs of our global neighbors. Gilbert Sister Cities and non-profit organizations will share information, give demonstrations and exhibit costumes, musical instruments, books, jewelry, flags and more. Specialists in the healing arts will be available to enlighten you about Yoga, reflexology and aromatherapy.

Religions of the World Join the Global Village Festival celebration of America's First Amendment right 'Freedom of Religion' and learn more about mankind. The World Religion tent hosts representatives of many world religions who will provide educational information regarding their beliefs.

Gilbert Public Schools Gallery of Global Learning See displays of art, music and educational projects about countries from around the world created by students from Gilbert Public Schools.

Parade of Nations Children wearing traditional-style costumes will carry the flags from countries in the United Nations.

ENTERTAINMENT

World Stage Celebrate diversity through performing arts and enjoy ethnic performances of dance, singing, instrumental music and theatre. Many cultures from around the world will be represented.

Village Stage Join us for performances from local artists of all ages as they present music and dance from their native lands.

Earth Stage Experience Scottish Athletes, Australian Rules Football, and martial arts through exhibition games and demonstrations.

VISUAL ARTS

Avenue of Arts Browse an array of original, ethnic handmade artwork on display and for sale created by independent artists.

Artist Demonstrations Watch as artwork is created right before your eyes and learn about different forms of art from the artists themselves.

Hands-on Community Art Project The Community Art Project reflects are togetherness. The project will have puzzle pieces for participants to decorate that will form a USA map. The map with the indvidual/family puzzle pieces will then be placed on the painted World Globe. Thus creating "America the Global" an extended project from the 7th Annual Gilbert Global Village Festival.
