First Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-Certified Building

Gilbert officials celebrated the Groundbreaking August 4th, 2011, Thursday morning for the construction of Fire Station 10, which will be the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building in Gilbert. The new fire station will ensure residents living in northwest Gilbert have optimum response times, and will be built utilizing environmentally-friendly components in a dual-use manner. Read more >>

Project Overview

Location: 1280 West Guadalupe Road (east of McQueen Road; north side of Guadalupe Road)

Savings for Gilbert: The facility will be powered using solar panels, which will help reduce utility costs by 40 percent. Those panels will provide shade covers for parking spots at the facility. In addition, a solar panel strip will also provide the heating of the water supply. The building's primary funding, about $3 million, comes from American Recovery & Reinvestment Act funding.

Street Light Solar-Pilot Program

A new solar light pilot is underway this summer and citizens are encouraged to provide feedback on the solar sleeves managing power to 10 lights at downtown Page Park. The Green Global solar light product is predicted to save up to 40 percent on utility costs. Read more >>

  • Location: Page Park, 132 West Bruce Avenue (2 blocks North of Elliot and 2 blocks West of Gilbert Rd.)
  • Savings for Gilbert: The town will reduce street light energy costs by 30-40% overall, extend 2-3 years life expectancy of light bulbs, and provide consistent light.
