Fish at the Riparian Preserve

The fishing lake at Water Ranch is operated as an Community Fishing Lake by Gilbert in partnership with the Arizona Game and Fish Department.  Stocked species include:

  • Rainbow Trout
  • Largemouth Bass
  • Sunfish
  • Farm-raised Channel Catfish

NEW!  Beginning January 2015, Water Ranch lake will be converted to Catch -and-Release for bass and sunfish only. Anglers will still be able to catch-and-keep trout, catfish and all other species.  In addition, only single barbless hooks can be used when fishing at Water Ranch.  These changes are being made in order to reduce waterfowl injuries at the Riparian.

Current fishing regulations and stocking schedules for the Water Ranch Fishing Lake are posted on site, and available though the Arizona Game and Fish website: AZGFD

Fishing is strictly prohibited in the basins and waterways of the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch, as fish in these natural habitat areas are not stocked, but naturally occurring, and therefore protected from interference in order to support the wildlife within this unique ecosystem.
