Gilbert Mayor Throws First Pitch at White Sox Game
Gilbert, Ariz.- It’s a baseball fan’s dream come true. Mayor John Lewis threw out the first pitch at a recent Chicago White Sox game after he was invited by Saint Xavier University (SXU). The Chicago-based university is constructing its first satellite campus in Gilbert, Arizona. During SXU Night at U.S Cellular Field, university officials nominated Mayor Lewis to throw the pitch in their honor, to represent the relationship between the two organizations and their growing future.
Lewis sought the help of former Major League Baseball players and Gilbert residents Bruce Hurst and Gary Christenson before throwing the pitch. They coached him in the art of acting and “looking” like a ball player.
